Last night I was blessed to see an early showing of Star Trek Into Darkness because they filmed part of the movie at my parents work and a raffle was held for tickets to the early showing and my step dad won two. He was going to take my mom but upon telling her about the tickets, they both saw my face and they decided it was a better idea to take me.

Apparently, it was a cast and crew appearance. And obviously my mind jumped to wild conclusions. Present at the showing were people from the visuals department, sound department and, of course, where my step dad works. Everyone was incredibly excited and it was amazing to see so many people who contributed to a movie and who never receive much or any recognition for the contributions. JJ Abrams did a small video bit before the movie started thanking everyone in the theater for their contribution saying he wished he could be there at which I rolled my eyes. I’m sorry but my thought is if JJ Abrams wanted to be somewhere, he would be there.

WHICH GOT ME THINKING

How sad. Every single person in that theater made some type of contribution to the movie and their contribution will never be recognized by anyone outside of the theater; and the cast and crew who weren’t even there to acknowledge the hard working men and women.

Don’t get me wrong. I admire all the actors in the movie. Benedict Cumberbatch is one of my all time favorite actors, I’ve been following Chris Pine’s work since he was in Princess Diaries 2 and Zachary Quinto’s work since he was in Heroes. I admire Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, and Karl Urban. And I think JJ Abrams is brilliant. BUT these people don’t have the decency to attend a small, no press, showing of a movie they’re in; to support the countless men and women who made them look good on screen; who they inconvenienced by parading around their work making them jump through hoops to get their every day jobs done.

Don’t get me wrong, I know everyone at the showing last night are excited about their contributions but I just think the famous faces of the film could acknowledge their contributions by showing up to the screening; if only for a few minutes.
